In 1930, Robert Petrie, then City Engineer to the City of Marion, founded the company now known as Randall Miller and Associates (RMA). For the next 40 years, the company slowly grew, establishing a reputation for quality work through evaluation and a complete understanding of the client's needs. The current ownership began in the 1970s, when Randall Miller became a full partner in the company, joining then-President Robert Benedict. Upon Mr. Benedict's death in 1984, the company was relocated to 1911 Wabash Road.
Surveying is the art and science of making measurements to determine relative points on, above and below the surface of the earth. The design, construction, and maintenance of physical works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. RMA is involved in construction layout at all stages of the project, from verifying initial control points through project completion.
Opened in 1993, this is the corporate and oldest current office of Randall Miller & Associates. It is located in the historic business district of Marion and provides services to the cities of Marion and Gas City, along with the surrounding areas. By the late 1990s, RMA was providing services to enough clients in the Muncie area that a local office was needed.
Land Surveying in the State of Indiana is regulated by the Board of Registration for Professional Land Surveyors per Title 865 IAC, which defines a specific process for surveyors to follow. Surveys begin with research and evaluations of recorded documents. Surveyors then proceed to the site and perform a reconnaissance of the area for evidence.
