In the Fall of 2016, the City of Altamont experienced a sewer collapse along Division Street, which is the main entrance and only truck access to ADM's grain elevator in Altamont. The street improvement project, totaling approximately $942,000, to repair the damage includes a new 9 thick concrete street (from Main Street to 6th Street), curb and gutter, storm sewer, and ADA intersection improvements.
The City of Effingham recently began construction on a watermain replacement project along Mulberry Street, Lawrence Avenue, Linden Street, Clark Avenue, and Franklin Avenue. These areas were experiencing multiple watermain breaks and discolored water due to the aging undersized cast iron line. The contractor, Kieffer Bros, will replace 4,995 lineal feet of the old watermain with new 8 PVC pipe.
