Services
Founded by Gregory T. Davis, a surveyor with four years of experience at that time, the business was launched with a $4,000 loan from his parents. The following year, Davis became a Certified Member of the National Association of Marine Surveyors. In 1979, he officially incorporated in the State of Illinois, changing the name of the business to Davis & Company, Ltd. For the next eleven years, Davis proceeded to build his business, increasing his own expertise and proficiency as a surveyor and investigator.
Salvage boats generally fall into two categories. The ones that are damaged to an extent that the cost to repair exceeds the market value, or repairs would not put the boat back into the condition it was in prior to the loss. And two, where a constructive total loss is declared. A constructive total loss is where the agreed insurance value, less salvage is less than the cost to repair.
If you're planning on buying a boat, a comprehensive vessel survey can be invaluable. Our surveyors will assess the condition and value of any pleasure vessel and provide you with detailed documents to back up our findings. To find out more check out our Condition and Value Survey FAQ. Similarly, if your boat is damaged or has been involved in an accident, we can offer a complete, impartial assessment of the damage. We have a menu of services products available to insurance claims professionals structured to meet your needs and to control LAE.
As with pleasure craft, Davis & Company can provide complete evaluations on any commercial craft up to 100 tons net. We can evaluate a new or used vessel for purchase, assess any damage to a vessel and provide fire and safety inspections. We also offer special survey options designed specifically for insurers and lenders.

Critical: Quality Beware of Jeffery. On the report he claimed I made comments which were clearly false.

I had my claim declined by my insurance company because these people claim basically my boat motor was damaged all summer long or it froze at the end of July, my boat sat the rest of the year until 1/25/2019 with water in the oil and they knew that when filed the claim in July, so that's what they went with even after insurance representative told them that the boat sat outside, that's when the theory of it being cracked all summer came to be, good luck if you have to deal with this company they are about taking care of the insurance company.

Beware of Tim Pagano. I filed an insurance claim on my boat and had the unfortunate experience of my claim being assigned to Tim. He was rude on the phone, and once he successfully denied my claim, that's when his integrity went down the drain. Come to find out, lazy Tim never even went to the marine/shop that my boat was at for repair. Once my insurance agent found out that he lied and denied my claim due to the engine "not having enough oil in it", he got cut out of the picture and the claim was successfully completed.

I highly suggest that if TIm is assigned to your marine insurance claim that you demand someone else. He is a class A definition of why surveyors and insurance companies get a bad reputation. Tim's motto - delay, deny, don't pay. Although he's not an insurance agent, he is hired by them to do this on a daily basis and probably makes a lot of money to do just that. Sickening.
